Days out from Stonebarrow Manor Holiday Cottages – Seaton, Colyton and Beer

Colyton in the River Axe valley is lovely to walk around

About 25 minutes away from Stonebarrow Manor (and just into Devon) is Seaton, home of the well-known Seaton Tramway. As it says on their website ‘3 miles of unspoilt countryside along the beautiful Axe Valley’, there is some amazing scenery and wildlife for bird spotters. There’ll be lots of friendly waves from passers-by on your way to Seaton to Colyford and on to Colyton. On a sunny day, it’s hard to beat . The Seaton terminus is at Harbour Road in the middle of the town; at peak times you may need to book in advance.

Colyton is at the end of the tramway line and well worth a visit. It is relaxed, picturesque and full of historical buildings tucked away in its numerous lanes.  A favourite place for locals and visitors alike is the café at the Colyton Garden shop.

A little further on from Seaton is Beer a truly lovely village beside the sea with a sheltered beach in a bay – see https://www.visitsouthdevon.co.uk/places/beer-p1270043 . Eat at The Anchor Inn there – https://www.greeneking.co.uk/pubs/devon/anchor-inn Its a great place to spend an afternoon on the beach or walking round the village.

For those feeling a little more energetic, there is a scenic walk along up along the cliffs and down to Branscombe Beach. Do note that ‘Parking is always charged at this car park and if you enter the car park at all you have to pay.’
