Looking east towards Golden Cap along Charmouth Beach

Head for Charmouth beach for fossil hunting and more – it’s a 15-minute walk from Stonebarrow Manor to the beach for fabulous coastal views west towards Lyme Regis and east towards Golden Cap. At the beach, which is a mixture of sand and stone, be sure to visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre. A popular pastime is Fossil hunting on the beach so you may need to book in advance. Check on the weather and the tide before you set off with the Charmouth beach webcam.

At the beach there is a bridge over the River Char. From there you can walk east along the beach past the Soft Rock Café. After that keep an eye out for falling rocks as there have been some large landslips recently. Also be aware of the tide and remember there is no access to or from the beach once you have climbed Stonebarrow Hill until you reach Seatown.

If you fancy heading for the hills from Stonebarrow Manor – turn left out of the driveway and it’s a 20-minute walk up (it’s definitely up, so you might want to go in the car) to the National Trust (pay and display) car park at the top where views and walks from there towards Golden Cap are stunning.

After a busy day, why not take a walk into the village to either of the pubs for a pint, a glass of wine or a bite to eat? Quench your thirst or dine out as well at either The George  or The Royal Oak. Alternatively why not head back to the cottages at Stonebarrow Manor with a takeaway from the Charmouth Fish Bar and Pizzeria.
